PSYCHIATRIC NURSES ASSOCIATION of Ireland

PNALogo2017200

Dear Colleagues

The PNA have been in a process of engagement with regard to the recognition of nurses for their response to the Covid 19 pandemic since 2020.

This process included advocating the position with the HSE, which led to conciliation under the auspices of the WRC in September 2021 and engagement with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER) in October. It was then to be considered by the Minister with a view to resolving the matter.

As you have seen through the media, the Government have now made the decision to grant a €1000 bonus to Health Care Workers on a tax free basis. The PNA have welcomed the decision and have called for all nurses to be encompassed and recognised with the payment.

This bonus, specific to Health Care Workers, and the provision of an additional bank holiday on March 18th this year (which will revert to St. Brigids Day, February 1st from 2023 onwards), is a benefit to members and is welcomed.

The PNA have made contact with the Department of Health on the issue to ascertain the specific details of the payment and when it is expected to be paid. We will ensure that you will be kept informed of any developments.

Thank you.

Peter Hughes

General Secretary
