Advanced Practice - Preparing for RANP Role Development

Professor Carney has extensive experience in the fields of leadership, education and research. Professor Carney's most recent research significantly contributed to the Working Group for Advanced Practice in the development of the NMBI's Advanced Practice (Nursing) Standards and Requirements published in 2017.

She has 75 peer reviewed publications/books, and 120 conference presentations, including 60 international.

Programme summary

This short programme will provide registered nurses working in the area of mental health nursing with evidenced based knowledge to develop their theoretical and practical understanding of Advanced Nurse Practice and specifically in preparing for the ANP role. Participants' are introduced to models of advanced nurse practice that promote evidence based practice and quality care. Advanced practice is demonstrated through values based care that is driven by ethics and excellence, thereby enhancing participants' confidence, skills and competences.

Programme aims

 

  1. To provide registered psychiatric nurses with up-to-date, evidenced based knowledge for the development of nurses' theoretical and clinical practice understanding of advanced practice by appraisal, analysis and application of the principles and concepts of advanced nurse practice.
  2. To support registered nurses in enhancing their confidence, skills and competences for preparation for their RANP role development.

 

Learning outcomes

 

At the end of this CPD programme, participants will be able to:

  1. Introduce the central concepts used in advanced practice, in order to provide participants with an understanding of the principal components of advanced practice theory and its application in psychiatric nursing
  2. Discuss how knowledge of advanced practice principles will contribute to improving patient care delivery by self and others in diverse areas of practice
  3. Identify how advanced nurse practice principles and processes will contribute to ethical values- based- best practice
  4. Analyse how knowledge of advanced practice will enhance participants' preparation for advanced practice role development
  5. Critically evaluate models of advanced practice and organisational models that support the delivery of healthcare at advanced practice level.
