Dr Noctor is a registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner and his experience of over 20 years has allowed him to develop an astute lens when it comes to Screening for Mental Health Problems in Childhood.

Programme summary

The successful participant who completes this course will understand the definitions, causes and classifications of mental health problems in childhood. The participant will comprehend the basic psychological functioning in childhood and identify strengths and limitations in the childhood environment. The programme will outline the available treatment modalities, paying particular attention to the specific differences of working with children as opposed to adults.

Programme aims

 

1. To provide registered nurses and midwives with up-to-date, evidenced based knowledge to develop the nurses' theoretical and practical understanding of Child Mental Health problems

2. To support registered nurses and midwives in enhancing their confidence, skills and competences, with regard to treating Child Mental Health problems

Learning outcomes

 

At the end of this CPD programme, participants will be able to:

1. Critically discuss the causes of mental health problems in childhood

2. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the theoretical understanding of mental health problems in childhood

3. Critically analyse the various approaches that are endorsed for the treatment of mental health problems in childhood

4.Critically discuss the psychodynamic function of screening for child mental health problems

5. Demonstrate a critical understanding of effective approaches to mental health treatment in childhood.
