Dr Angela Cocoman is a Lecturer at the School of Nursing and Human Sciences in Dublin City University and her research focused on the physical health and wellbeing of people with mental health problems. Angela’s research has developed, implemented and evaluated a wellness model of care that was used to improve the physical health and well-being of patients.

Programme summary

This course aims to provide registered psychiatric/mental health nurses with up to date, evidenced based knowledge to critically develop their theoretical and practical understanding of chronic illness and the provision of physical health interventions.

Programme aims

 

  1. To provide registered psychiatric/mental health nurses with up to date, evidenced based knowledge to critically develop their theoretical and practical understanding of chronic illness and the provision of physical health interventions.
  2. To support registered psychiatric/mental health nurses in enhancing their confidence, skills and competences, with regard to the provision of physical health care.

Learning outcomes

 

At the end of this CPD programme, participants will be able to:

1. Critically analyse and discuss the concepts of physical health care.
2. Demonstrate a critical understanding of health, health promotion and chronic illness in individuals with mental health problems
3. Critically analyse relevant approaches to health interventions, for example the provision of physical health screening/monitoring and health interventions.
