Skills and Tools for Effective Project Management

Ms Kathleen Kinsella has over 30 years' experience in both private and public sectors of Healthcare in Ireland as a nurse, healthcare industry representative, academic and entrepreneur. Kathleen's real-world experience of managing projects will be used to link theory to practice throughout the day.

Programme summary

This introductory-level programme provides participants with the language and detailed knowledge to act as an informed member of a project management team using the best practice project methods. The programme provides a detailed overview of six stages from starting to closing a project. The programme comprises a mixture of input sessions, group exercises and workshop activities which will allow previous practical project experience to be used for analysis. All participants will be encouraged to actively participate during the practical sessions to gain maximum benefit of the programme.

Programme aims

 

1. To provide participants with an evidenced based-understanding of what is required to manage successful projects and enhance the project outputs.

2. To support participants involved in project work by providing methods, practical tools and approaches that are regularly applied in successful project management.

3. To develop participants' confidence, skills and competences, by providing practical solutions to common project pitfalls.

Learning outcomes

 

At the end of this CPD programme, participants will be able to:

1. Assess and critically evaluate project justification criteria and project governance

2. Demonstrate a critical understanding of common project management terminology and methods

3. Define and demonstrate a critical understanding of project structures and resources

4. Demonstrate a critical understanding of how to divide projects into manageable and controllable stages

5. Identify and critically evaluate appropriate project reporting tools and templates
