Dear Colleagues
You will recall the Pension Abatement issue when our retired nurses signed up to return to work on reduced hours, they were assured they could earn up to their pension remuneration without their pension being abated
The Department of Public Expenditure and Reform changed the application of pension abatement from December 2022. It is quite extraordinary that the HSE are applying this circular retrospectively to December 2022 resulting in our retired staff, who have returned to work on reduced hours, receiving very substantial bills for thousands of euros.
We have informed the HSE that our members will not be paying any retrospection until the engagement process has been finalised and this is acknowledged by the HSE.
We have been challenging this outlandish retrospective application of the abatement change at every opportunity. We have referred the matter to the WRC; however, the employers were refusing to engage.
We now have confirmation that the employer will attend the WRC, and we are now awaiting a date from the WRC and we will keep you updated as soon as we have any further information.
Kind regards
Mr Peter Hughes
General Secretary
