PSYCHIATRIC NURSES ASSOCIATION of Ireland

Dear Members

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PNA met yesterday, August 5th, to discuss the expiration of the Public Service Agreement 2024-2026 and the lack of any agreed successor to that agreement, which ended on June 30th.

It was the consensus of the Executive that the current situation cannot be tolerated and action must be taken to ensure that this situation does not persist. The cost of living crisis, not only what has been experienced but the uncertainty into the future, was a focal point of discussion. Due consideration was also given to the value of the previous agreement considering the damaging effect that inflation has had during its lifespan. Considering these factors, the NEC adopted a motion to ballot for Industrial Action, up to and including strike action with a recommendation to vote in favour of same.

Steps will now be taken, across all branches, to commence a ballot. The ballot period will run from Monday August 10th to Monday September 7th at 12pm. This ballot is open to all PNA members working within the Public Service.

Yours Sincerely,
Michael Hayes,
Deputy General Secretary
