Dear PNA Members,

Text of letter sent to Mr. Barry O Brien, National Director HR, re Graduate Nurse Scheme below for your information.

21/08/13

Dear Mr. O Brien,

I am to request an urgent meeting with you with regarding a number of issues which have come to our attention in the last 48 hours in relation to the Graduate Nurse Scheme.

  • Notification has been issued with regard to 2011 and 2012 Graduates who are currently employed by the HSE, advising to apply for the scheme. This is totally contrary to your assertion that the Graduate Scheme will only be used to replace overtime and agency costs and will not be used to fill vacant posts. You also confirmed that these additional positions are over and above the WTE headcount.
  • There are also a number of issues in relation to the job specification, e.g. a requirement to possess a full drivers licence.
  • The Graduates are being requested to apply for positions in which the educational component is unclear.

Once again I am requesting a meeting as a matter of urgency.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Des Kavanagh

General Secretary
