PSYCHIATRIC NURSES ASSOCIATION of Ireland

Dear Members,

It has come to our attention that one member in the South paying PRSI Class A has been paid sick pay less Disability Benefit for the first 6 days of illness.

Members will be aware that in Budget 2014 the Government extended the non-payment of Disability Benefit at commencement of illness from 3 days to 6 days. Up to now the HSE have paid full sick pay for the first 3 days of illness to compensate for the loss of Disability Benefit. The PNA have raised this issue with HSE CERS and it has been confirmed as follows:

the Illness Benefit is configured to be paid by the HSE for the first 6 days rather than the first 3 days …… this is in keeping with Finance Direction.”

HSE CERS have also advised that any deviations from this policy should be raised directly with the local finance Dept.

Yours sincerely,

Seamus Murphy

Deputy General Secretary
