Dear Colleagues,

Please see below email to HSE stating the PNA's objection to the HSE Memo's intention to have annual leave used during the current weather conditions. In the event that you are unable to attend for work due to the current severe weather conditions we are advising members to apply for exceptional leave.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Hughes

General Secretary, PNA

 Dear Mr Delamere,

I am to refer to the attached memo dated February 27th 2018 re Red Alert Warning/Storm Ophelia.

It is totally unacceptable that frontline staff who are unable to attend work due to the adverse weather conditions will have that time deducted from their annual leave.

The weather conditions we are experiencing are very exceptional and it is imperative that the employer shows compassion and understanding in these exceptional circumstances. Our members have shown committment by attending work in the most severe conditions for many years and have a proud record in this regard. Our members goodwill has been stretched for numerous years and this memo is an affront to that goodwill.

It is essential that this memo is amended to ensure that our members annual leave will not be affected and we will be advising our members where they are unable to attend for work due to the adverse weather to apply for exceptional leave.

I am available to meet at your earliest convenience.

Yours sincerely

Peter Hughes

General Secretary
