Persons pursuing certificate courses may be granted three days study leave in each year of the course. This leave is intended to facilitate preparation for the examinations and therefore must be taken prior to the examination.
Persons pursuing courses at a standard higher than certificate level i.e. diploma, degree or equivalent professional qualification level may be granted four days study leave in each year of the course. This leave is intended to facilitate preparation for the examinations and therefore must be taken prior to the examinations.
Where examinations fall on a day when the staff member would otherwise be on duty at some stage, examination leave may be granted for the entire day.
The granting of study leave and examination leave is a function of local management and the staff member should make the necessary arrangements with his or her manager in good time to avoid disappointment.
Study leave and examination leave are integral parts of this scheme and the scheme for staff sponsorships. The concession is not available otherwise.
The entitlement to leave as set out in relation to study leave applies to full-time staff; job sharers and part-time staff may be granted leave on a pro-rata basis
